      Link building is important, as backlinks help pages rank higher in Google’s search results.

      • Backlinks are one of the three major ranking factors in Google. So if you want your website’s pages to rank high in search, you will need to include incoming links in your SEO mix.

      • The more high-quality backlinks a page has, the higher it can rank. Note however, that an excess of links that are of low quality and don’t follow a progressive, natural pattern will most certainly send negative signals to search engines and incur possible penalties, i.e. drop in rankings.

        Actively contact a website and ask them for a backlink, by providing valuable and newsworthy content to them. This may include blog posts, in-depth guidebooks, visual assets (infographics) or case studies.

      • Offer alternative for broken links

        A tactic that takes advantage of broken (dead) pages on the web. It involves finding a dead page and asking linkers to swap the links to a working page on your site.

      • Create content to earn links

        In this case, other websites link to yours, without you asking them to – this is done by creating high-quality content people want to link to, stuff like visual assets (infographics, charts, diagrams), original research and data (industry studies, surveys, proprietary research, etc.), οnline tools and calculators or in-depth guides and tutorials.

      Quality Control

      As search engines value quality over quantity, here is what we look for when examining the quality of an earned link for your website.

      • High authority

        This refers to the overall quality of a website. The higher the score, the more weight its backlinks have. For example, a link from Wikipedia will have a much bigger impact, than a link from an unknown blogger.

      • More relevance

        Google has stated that their algorithm also analyses if content is relevant to a user’s query, so it is important to get links from websites that are relevant to yours, instead of pursuing every link opportunity that pops up. The more relevant the website’s content is, the better for your SEO.

      • Visible placement

        A link’s position on a page is important, so to get the most juice out of a backlink, it should appear within the main body of a webpage and as high up as possible – leaving links on footers and sidebars with less juice.

      • Relevant anchor text

        Anchor text is the clickable text that appears in a backlink. It is super important to have a relevant and descriptive text on the anchor text, rather than a generic “read more” type.

      • Allow links to pass endorsement

        Ensure that a “nofollow” attribute is not present on the link as this tells search engines not to follow the outbound link, which does not pass any SEO authority.
